Here are my 10 daily habits for success as challenged by Wendy at creationthoughts.blogspot.com. Great stuff!
I remember to be thankful many times during the day. In fact, carrying a gratitude rock does make remembering easier. Dr. Rev. Michael Beckwith said something on Oprah that I thought was very profound. He said, “nothing new can come into your life, unless you open yourself up to becoming grateful.” Powerful words.
You can see the quote here (at about 1 minute 40 seconds into the clip - but I’d watch the whole thing)
2. Surround Myself With Inspiring Materials - Everyday!
I read books. Watch inspiring movies. Re-Watch “The Secret”. Listen to inspirational podcasts and audio programs. I visit inspiring websites - everyday!
This “habit has was instrumental in the development of KeepingTheSecret.com - to make these valuable materials easy for you and me to find.
I stay away from news and negative influences. I remember being at a James Ray seminar and he said (I’m paraphrasing), “…do not watch the news. If there is something important that you need to know, you will find out about it.” And you know what - he was right.
I always have a book, CD or podcast with me that keeps me inspired. What a difference it has made too.
3. Re-frame My Experiences.
I just heard a great quote yesterday that went something like this, “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”
I am learning to “Let Go” and go with the flow. I intend not to let the idealism in my head affect my attitude. If I get cut off in traffic, it’s OK. That just means I am not suppose to be ‘there’ - I am suppose to be ‘here’. If I hold open a door for a stranger and they don’t say thank you, it’s OK - maybe they are having a bad day or I just didn’t hear it or who cares. I have learned to accept things as they are instead of how I think they should be - who says I am right anyways, right!
Practice makes perfect, and I have learned that the practice of re-framing does get easier with each day. Tony Robbins had a great explanation of re-framing in his book, Unlimited Power : The New Science Of Personal Achievement. Good stuff.
4. Visualize the day as I intend it, and then take action!
I take time each morning to visualize the outcomes I would like to see manifest during the day. Maybe it’s giving a successful presentation or just having that “connected feeling all day. Whatever it is, I intend for it to happen.
Then, I take action! I create my own opportunities. I am open to other people’s ideas and suggestions.
5. Serve Others.
I created this site as a means to serve other people. And while I am serving others, I also learned that I am serving myself too, because I get to research and discover these great resources everyday.
“The Secret” was not the first time I had been introduced to its teachings, but watching it sure did light a fire inside of me. For me, it made me want to really live the principles of the Law of Attraction every day - for the rest of my life. It encouraged me to learn more and serve more. In fact, the gift of serving was the driving force behind this website. As I would find new information and share it with those around me, I realized that people were not familiar with the sites and resources I had found. So I created this site to allow everyone to share in its resources, and to have everyone share their resources with me. I have learned that serving others, without any expectation of return, is its own reward!
Quick Note: When I started my web design business, Bernadot Studios, I offered to design a website for free to a couple of business owners I had met. They were young and could use the help, and I needed to build my portfolio. Long story short, I built them a site and have since built 2 more sites for them (they have went separate ways), and am working on a third right now. One simple act of serving others, has created thousands and thousands of dollars of income.
The simple act of serving has such great power, and it also makes you feel good too. Serve others. Start right now!
6. Surround Myself with Like Minded People.
I have shared “The Secret” with my fiance, her family, my family, our friends, etc. And the best part is, everyone finds value in the teachings. We have created a network of people where inspiration is a two-way street.
I remember James Ray saying at that seminar I mentioned earlier that if the people in your life do not support your way of thinking, find new people in your life. It sounded harsh, but he is exactly right.
I guess that is one reason I prefer to work for myself. I can choose the clients I wish to work with and I am not surrounded by office politics, other people’s bad moods and frustrating decision making by those in positions above me.
The company you keep does influence you, so choose the people you surround yourself with everyday wisely.
7. Learn Something New Everyday.
I have heard many teachers of “The Secret” state that “The Secret” is simply kindergarten or first grade when it comes to discovering all there is to know about the Law of Attraction. There is so much to learn and it is something we truly need to discover for ourselves.
While the “Law of Attraction” is revealed as “the secret”, I have noticed that many of the teachers have different philosophies for actually applying it to your life. And that is because we are all different, and we don’t all learn or think the same way. It is our responsibility to discover what works best for each of us.
Find a teacher that connects with you, and delivers that wonderful “Aha” moment to you.
This applies to all aspects of your life too, not just self discovery or manifesting your life.
You can make a living and a life for yourself from simply learning, understanding and being able to apply the knowledge from a single book (although you will surely want to read more than a single book). I did this back in 1995 or 1996. I bought a Windows 95 Book (I am showing my age here) and used it to teach myself how to use the Windows 95 operating system. I then placed an ad in the paper and went house to house to fix people’s PCs. This experience provided me with enough qualifications to get a job in the IT field (I had a degree in Finance and Economics - go figure). While I worked in the IT field, I taught myself web design, which afforded me the opportunity to build sites for the companies I worked for. The rest is history. I have been successfully self-employed since
And here is what I just realized - really it just hit me. I bought that Windows 95 Book because my computer was crashing and nobody I knew could fix it (not even the local PC repair shop). Funny how that “bad thing” (computer crashing), resulted in the success I enjoy today!
8. Be Kind Versus Right.
I heard this first from my favorite teacher, Dr. Wayne Dyer. He talks about keeping your ego in check by practicing the simple process of being kind to others at the expense of your own self being right.
3 Simple ways I do this:
- I allow others in front of me when driving or standing in line at the store
- I allow others to misspeak without correction (as long as I understand them)
- I stop looking for ways to be offended by others, and wear a smile instead
The Cookie Thief is a great example of someone being kind versus right:
9. Exceed Peoples’ Expectations.
Running my own business, I have the opportunity to exceed people’s expectations everyday. Whether it is a simple smile and pleasant greeting while answering the phone, or responding to a client’s request in minutes versus hours. All of these simple acts are the building blocks of creating a long-lasting relationship with my clients (and anyone else for that matter).
People love to feel important and listened to, and to have their needs addressed in a quick and friendly manner. When an issue does arise, I look for a way to convert it into an opportunity, and to demonstrate to them why they have made the right decision to do business with me.
10. Create Something!
Writing this blog is cathartic! I have learned a couple of things about myself just while writing this post. But it wouldn’t have happened had I not made a decision to write down my thoughts and create this blog.
I expect great things from this blog, but I am detached from its outcome. I do not expect any one thing to happen, but I know that the creation of this blog will change my life forever - for the better!
Create something positive that will change your life forever!

Scott,
Your list of success secrets has so many great tidbits, I could comment on all of them! However, to keep it short, I will stick to these two:
1) Your point #6 - surrounding yourself with like-minded people. That is SO important! Most people do not realize that they are surrounded “by default” with negativity, up to and including their own friends and family members, not to mention co-workers.
There is only negative or positive in the universe(from each person’s perspective), so if you eliminate negativity, only one thing can possibly remain!
2) Your quote: “I have learned a couple of things about myself just while writing this post.”
I could jump up and down with happiness after reading that, because THAT is exactly what I wanted to happen when I first put this project together!
I knew that by actually thinking out and writing down their success secrets, people would have to take a hard look at their habits which would help them to maximize the good ones, and minimize the bad ones.
Your list is full of great success information, Scott, and it is inspirational as well. Thanks for participating!

The Secrets Are Out…
The project attracted 152 writers, each of whom contributed probably at least a thousand suggestions for success. Those figures speak to the power of the project, the willingness of writers to give and to share. …
